At the Gary Sinise Foundation, we serve our nation by honoring our defenders, veterans, first responders, their families, and those in need. We do this by creating and supporting unique programs designed to entertain, educate, inspire, strengthen, and build communities.
Since our founding in 1996, TriWest Healthcare Alliance has been On a Mission to Serve® our nation’s Veterans and military community.
For 17 years, we administered the Department of Defense TRICARE Program. We have been proud to serve those who wear America’s uniform, those who came before them and their family members. Today, we are privileged to support the health care needs of our nation’s Veterans, offering access to quality provider networks and excellent customer service. Here’s how we do it:
Service is Our Mindset. Doing “Whatever It Takes!” is not only our corporate motto, it is a deep-rooted desire to go above and beyond for our customers, because we understand and honor them.
We Respect the Military Culture. We Honor the Sacrifices Made. We are Committed to Providing the Support Our Customers Deserve. Our team members – many of whom are former military or military family members – are committed to providing superior service to our nation’s heroes. Our extensive network of providers ensures we are able to meet the health care needs of our customers, offering quality care closer to their homes, whether in urban, rural or highly rural areas. The providers in our network and our business partners strive to continually support the military community and exceed customer expectations.
Caring for Those Who Serve. TriWest is publicly minded, not publicly traded. We take our mission a step further by giving back to the communities we serve and fulfilling the needs of our customers by working with military and Veterans service organizations as well as supporting charitable causes.
Simply put, CVA’s mission is to advocate for policies that will preserve the freedom and liberty that we and our families so proudly fought and sacrificed to defend.
The goal of Concerned Veterans for America is to translate the experience, concerns and hopes unique to veterans and their families into a common vision of freedom. We apply this unique perspective to speak out on issues that threaten to cripple not only our economic and national security, but the spirit of opportunity and liberty that all Americans cherish.
We are driven to organize and amplify that perspective to both the American people and our leaders in Washington.
Who We Are
We are veterans from every branch of uniformed services and every conflict from World War II to the Global War on Terror. We are the family members of those who have proudly worn the uniform. We are freedom-loving citizens who value America’s heroes and are concerned about the fate of our country. We come from all walks of life and live in every community across America.
We all share a strong belief that the freedoms we have defended – that our friends and loved ones suffered and died for – are being threatened by the irresponsibility, broken promises, and misguided priorities of our leaders in Washington. We know that veterans, service members and their families are, and will continue to be, disproportionately affected by the current economic crisis. For this reason, we must rally to serve again as active citizens, just as we fought as soldiers.
Throughout our years of service and many deployments around the world, we have seen firsthand what happens when freedom and free markets are interfered with and fail. We know all too well that freedoms surrendered are rarely — if ever — regained. And we watch as our elected leaders continue to shrink from challenges and betray the trust placed in them. The truth is, the ideals and freedoms that have defined America since its founding are dissolving before our eyes.
We are committed to the historical promise of our nation: that all Americans have an equal opportunity to pursue prosperity. We affirm this commitment by working to return to the tradition of limited, effective government so that those men and women who have given the most in service to this nation will not be denied their chance to enjoy that prosperity.
We are resolved that it is our sacred duty to stand as one — veterans, family members and active citizens alike — in defense of the fundamental ideals of liberty that are the soil from which opportunity for prosperity grows.

The Congress Cigar Company and its leading brand, La Palina, had its beginnings when Samuel Paley emigrated from the Ukraine in the late 1800s.
Arriving in Chicago, Sam obtained work at a cigar factory as a lector – an individual who reads novels, magazines and newspapers to the cigar rollers in the gallery. His interest in the tobacco industry grew, and Sam devoted his personal time to studying cigars, the nuances of their blending and the tradition of their manufacture. His efforts and knowledge were quickly recognized by his employer, and Sam was promoted to roller and then blender.
In 1896 Sam opened a cigar shop of his own in Chicago with an adjacent factory that he named Congress Cigar Company. Their first product was La Palina, in honor of his wife Goldie Drell Paley. Sam was a turn-of-the-century master craftsman and would sit in the window every day rolling cigars. La Palina was his passion, and Sam was a true artisan who believed in quality, excellence and perfection.
Congress Cigar Company moved to Philadelphia in 1910, and Sam’s son, William S. Paley, joined as Vice President of Advertising after his graduation from the Wharton School of Business.
Enamored with radio, William sponsored a small radio show in Philadelphia called “The La Palina Hour”. The advertising increased sales of La Palina and convinced young Paley of the value and potential of radio, leading him in a new direction. William’s subsequent purchase of five radio stations in Philadelphia was the inception of his Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS), known as “The Tiffany Network” for the quality of its programming and its journalistic excellence. Ultimately, Congress Cigar was liquidated in 1926, after Sam’s retirement.
William S. Paley learned about quality from his father and through his experience with La Palina and Congress Cigar. Those values would guide the Paleys for the next three generations and would take Bill Paley back to his roots, and the resurrection of the La Palina brand.
The Twenty-First Century
In the process of exploring his family’s heritage and inspired by his love of the finest things in life, Bill began the journey to revive the all–but–forgotten La Palina brand. He dedicated himself to creating a cigar emblematic of the original La Palina made by his grandfather.
La Palina premium handmade cigars represent a marriage of the finest tobacco leaves blended by master artisans.
La Palina cigars embody the finest aspects of craftsmanship, rolled in tradition with unwavering quality and care.
La Palina cigars truly capture the Paley style. The blends are smooth and well-rounded, cigars of elegance and finesse. The draw is easy, the burn is even, and the construction is flawless: an unforgettable experience.

Anheuser-Busch’s military support dates back to the company’s co-founders. Both Adolphus Busch, and his father-in-law, Eberhard Anheuser, served in the Union Army as members of the Missouri Volunteers during the Civil War.
During World War I and World War II, the company produced diesel engines for Navy submarines and amphibious recon vehicles for the Army. Who We Are
The Young Marines is a youth education and service program for boys and girls, ages 8 through completion of high school. The Young Marines promotes the mental, moral, and physical development of its members. The program focuses on character building, leadership, and promotes a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. The Young Marines is the premier youth organization in its Drug Demand Reduction Efforts.
The Young Marines is open to all youth ages 8 through completion of high school. The only membership requirement is that the youth must be in good standing at school. Since the Young Marines’ humble beginnings, in 1958, with one unit and a handful of boys, the organization has grown to approximately 300 units with 10,000 youth and 3,000 adult volunteers in 40 states, the District of Columbia, and Japan; with affiliates in a host of other countries.
Young Marines units are community-based programs lead by dedicated adult volunteers. Many of these volunteers are former, retired, active duty, or reserve Marines who believe passionately that the values they learned as Marines had a positive effect on them. It is through these caring adults that Young Marines learn the inner values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment while instilling our corps values of Leadership, Discipline and Teamwork. Adult volunteers are individually screened by the National Headquarters based on background information and recommendations provided with each person’s registration.
Upon joining a local Young Marines unit, youth undergo a 26-hour orientation program, generally spread out over several weekly meetings. This orientation program is affectionately called “Recruit Training.” The youth learn general subjects such as history, customs and courtesies, close order drill, physical fitness, and military rank structure. After graduating from Young Marines “Recruit Training”, the youth have the opportunity to learn more new skills, earn rank, wear the Young Marines uniform and work toward ribbon awards. Young Marines earn ribbons for achievement in areas such as leadership, community service, swimming, academic excellence, first aid, and drug resistance education.
The Young Marines is the proud five-time recipient of the Department of Defense’s Fulcrum Shield Award for Excellence in Youth Anti-Drug Programs. The award recognizes military-affiliated youth organizations around the world that have made concerted efforts at spreading anti-drug messages throughout their communities.
Young Marines Veterans Appreciation Week
For one week in November each year, Young Marines units across the country celebrate Young Marines Veterans Appreciation Week (YMVAW). The purpose of the campaign is to challenge our Young Marines to dedicate some of their time to help our nation’s veterans and to demonstrate, through their actions, their sincere appreciation for our veterans’ service to our country. Unit projects include sending thank you cards to hospitalized veterans, cleaning up a disabled veteran’s yard, visiting veterans in the hospital, or simply setting up a community function to socialize with local veterans.
The mission of the Young Marines is to positively impact America’s future by providing quality youth development programs for boys and girls that nurtures and develops its members into responsible citizens who enjoy and promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.
Strengthening the lives of America’s youth
